Bellerophon tumidus was named by Sandberger and Sandberger (1853). It is not extant.

It was recombined as Bucaniella tumida by Koken (1896); it was recombined as Bucaniella tumidus by Knod (1908); it was recombined as Bucanella tumida by Franke (2016); it was recombined as Retispira tumidus by Wagner (2023).
