Taxonomy
Billingsia saratogensis was named by Walcott (1886). It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Trochus saratogensis by Walcott (1890); it was recombined as Matherellina saratogensis by Kobayashi (1933); it was recombined as Matherella saratogensis by Walcott (1912), Runnegar (1981) and Wagner (2023).
