Bucania comata was named by Perner (1903). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Zahorany, which is in a Zahorany transition zone/lower shoreface sandstone/shale in the Zahorany Formation of the Czech Republic.
It was recombined as Bucanopsis comata by Horný (1963), Horný (1997) and Wagner (2023).
