Pileopsis compressus was named by Goldfuss (1832). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Acroculia compressa by Römer (1843); it was corrected as Pileopsis compressa by Goldfuss (1844); it was recombined as Capulus compressus by de Verneuil and Barrande (1856), Clarke (1885) and Whidborne (1891); it was recombined as Platyceras compressus by Wagner (2023).
