Conocardium herculeum was named by de Koninck (1885). It is not extant.

It was corrected as Conocardium herculea by Hind (1900); it was recombined as Hippocardia herculea by Amler (1996), Hoare and Aghababula (2001), Rogalla and Amler (2006) and Wagner (2023).
