Conocardium sibleyense was named by La Rocque (1950).

It was recombined as Bransonia sibleyensis by Fagerstrom (1961); it was recombined as Bransonia sibleyense by Hoare (1989); it was recombined as Mulceodens sibleyense by Linsley and Kesling (1982) and Wagner (2023).
