Archaeopraga was named by Horný (1963) [Sepkoski's age data: S Prid Sepkoski's reference number: 2]. It is the type genus of Archaeopragidae.
It was assigned to Tryblidiidae by Runnegar and Jell (1976); to Tryblidiida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Archaeopragidae by Bouchet et al. (2005).
