Procarinaria was named by Perner (1911) [Sepkoski's age data: S u Sepkoski's reference number: 1]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Cyrtolitidae by Knight et al. (1960); to Procarinariidae by Runnegar and Jell (1976); to Modiomorphidae by Kříž (1999); and to Cyrtonellida by Sepkoski (2002).
