Kirengellida was named by Rozov (1975). It is not extant.

It was corrected as Kiringellida by Runnegar and Jell (1976) and Wagner (2023).

It was assigned to Cyrtostoma by Runnegar and Jell (1976); to Monoplacophora by Rozov (1975) and Stinchcomb and Angeli (2002); to Brachiopoda by Dzik (2010); and to Tergomya by Wagner (2023).

It was assigned to Monoplacophora by Feng et al. (2000); and to Tergomya by Peel (1991) and Sepkoski (2002).
