Taxonomy
Hypseloconus was named by Berkey (1898) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Dres-l O Trem Sepkoski's reference number: 1,2,644]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Hypseloconidae.

It was assigned to Hypseloconidae by Knight and Yochelson (1960), Horný (1963), Runnegar and Jell (1976) and Stinchcomb (1986); to Hypseloconellacea by Peel (1991); and to Hypseloconida by Sepkoski (2002).
