Taxonomy
Katospira (Girvania) excavata was named by Longstaff (1924) [Katospira (Girvania) excavata Longstaff 1924]. It is not extant. Its type locality is Locality 4. Shalloch Mill, Whitehouse Bay, Girvan, which is in a Pusgillian carbonate limestone in the Mill Formation of the United Kingdom. It is the type species of Katospira (Girvania).

It was recombined as Spiroecus excavata by Wagner (2023).
