Coreospira was named by Saito (1936) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Tojo Sepkoski's reference number: 110]. It is the type genus of Coreospiridae.
It was assigned to Helcionellidae by Runnegar and Jell (1976); to Helcionelloida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Coreospiridae by Knight (1947), Knight et al. (1960), Parkhaev (2002) and Bouchet et al. (2005).
