Loxonema compacta was named by Hall (1859) [Loxonema? compacta Hall 1860b]. It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Melissosoa compacta by Clarke (1909); it was recombined as Mesocoelia compacta by Williams and Breger (1916); it was recombined as Michelia compacta by Wagner (2017).
