Taxonomy
Monodonta archon was named by Whidborne (1889). It is not extant. Its type locality is Chudleigh, North Devon, which is in a Givetian carbonate limestone in the Lummaton Shell Bed Formation of the United Kingdom.

It was recombined as Plagiothyra archon by Whidborne (1892), Frýda (2000), Heidelberger (2001) and Wagner (2023).
