Platyschisma helicites was named by de Sowerby and Murchison (1839) [Platyschisma helicites de Sowerby in Murchison 1839]. It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Turbocheilus helicites by Peel (1984) and Horný (1995); it was recombined as Pycnomphalus helicites by Lindström (1884) and Wagner (2023).
