Pleurotomaria arachne was named by Billings (1865). Its type specimen is GSC 1223, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Lophospira arachne by Bassler (1915); it was recombined as Trochonemella arachne by Wilson (1951) and Wagner (2023).
