Orthoconus was named by Stinchcomb (1986) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Trep-u Sepkoski's reference number: 644]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Hypseloconidae by Stinchcomb (1986); and to Mollusca by Sepkoski (2002).

B. L. Stinchcomb 1986Shell an elongate elliptical cone, gradually expanding to form a cone at least five times larger than greatest length at aperture. Shell aperture an ellipse with the length and height subequal. Apex in most species extending to a well formed point. Surfac ewith simple radiating striae, running from the apex to the margin; interspaces wider than the striae. Muscle scars unknown.
