Shaw 1962 | In order to separate these lower, uncoiled, and presumably more primitive forms from the higher, slightly coiled and presumably more advanced forms, the genus Scenella is here split into two subgenera. For the less primitive forms we may recognize Scenella (Scenella), with S. (S.) reticulata Billings, 1872, as subgenotype, and for the more primitive forms Scenella (Protoconchoides), n. subgen., with Scenella hermitensis Resser, 1945, as subgenotype. Table 2 summarizes the principal features of the species discused below. |
