Taxonomy
Eccyliomphalus alatus was named by Roemer (1876). It is not a trace fossil. It is the type species of Eccyliopterus.
It was recombined as Ecculiomphalus alatus by Knight et al. (1960) and Yochelson (1963); it was recombined as Eccyliopterus alatus by Remelé (1888), Ulrich and Scofield (1897), Morris and Cleevely (1981), Wagner (1999) and Wagner (2023).
