Taxonomy

Acanthosphaera was named by Ehrenberg (1859) [Sepkoski's age data: K Albi-m R]. It is extant. Its type is Acanthosphaera haliphormis.

It was assigned to Spumellaria by Sepkoski (2002); to Actinomminae by Kiessling (2005); and to Actinommidae by Sharma and Takahashi (2007).
