Matthevia was named by Walcott (1885) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Fran-u O Trem-l Sepkoski's reference number: 274]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Paleoloricata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Mattheviidae by Fisher (1962) and Vendrasco and Runnegar (2004).
