Bellerophon incisus was named by Clarke (1885). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Phragmostoma incisum by Clarke (1904); it was recombined as Phragmosphaera incisa by Knight (1945); it was recombined as Patellilabia (Phragmosphaera) incisus by Rollins et al. (1971); it was recombined as Phragmosphaera incisus by Wagner (2023).
