Bellerophon murchisoni was named by de Ferrusac and d'Orbigny (1840) [d’Orbigny in ]. It is not extant.

It was recombined as Temnodiscus murchisoni by Reed (1921); it was recombined as Pharetrolites murchisoni by Peel (1977) and Wagner (2023).
