Taxonomy
Luidiidae was named by Sladen (1889) [Initial spelling Luidiinae, corrected by Verril 1889]. It is extant. Its type is Luidia. It was considered monophyletic by Gale (1987) and Mah and Blake (2012).

It was assigned to Platyasterida by Spencer and Wright (1966); to Diplozonina by Gale (1987); to Paxillosida by Gale (2011); and to Paxillosida by Blake (1987), Blake (1989) and Mah and Blake (2012).
