Taxonomy
Pleurotomaria mississippiensis was named by White and Whitfield (1862). It is not extant.

It was recombined as Worthenia mississippiensis by Weller (1901); it was recombined as Mourlonia mississippiensis by Knight and Bridge (1944), Yochelson and Saunders (1967) and Thein and Nitecki (1974); it was recombined as Worthenia (Yochelsonospira) mississippiensis by Gordon and Yochelson (1987); it was recombined as Yochelsonospira mississippiensis by Wagner (2023).
