Taxonomy
Oxyrhina was named by Agassiz (1843).
It was synonymized subjectively with Isurus by Hay (1902), Jordan (1907) and Jordan and Hanibal (1923).
It was assigned to Squalidae by Leidy (1873); to Lamnidae by Davis (1888), Woodward (1889), Ameghino (1901), Chapman and Pritchard (1904), Eastman (1904), White (1926), Bohm (1926), Leriche (1942), Jordan (1963) and Cassier (1966); and to Isuridae by Herman (1975).
