Euomphalus cristatus was named by Phillips (1836). It is not extant. It is the type species of Phanerotinus.
It was recombined as Phanerotinus cristatus by Sowerby (1844), Morris and Cleevely (1981), Wyse Jackson et al. (2000) and Wagner (2023).
