Steropoides diversus
Taxonomy
Ornithichnites diversus was named by Hitchcock (1836). It is a trace fossil. Its type locality is below Turners Falls, tracksite, which is in a Hettangian/Sinemurian fluvial-lacustrine sandstone/shale in the Portland Formation of Massachusetts.
It was synonymized subjectively with Steropezoum elegans by Hitchcock (1848); it was synonymized subjectively with Tridentipes elegans by Miller (1879); it was synonymized subjectively with Steropoides elegans by Hay (1930); it was recombined as Steropoides diversus by Lull (1915), Lull (1917), Hitchcock and Grier (1927), Kuhn (1963) and Haubold (1971).
