Craspedochiton was named by Shuttleworth (1853) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-l R]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Acanthochitonidae by Abbott (1974) and Wells and Houston (2001); and to Neoloricata by Sepkoski (2002).
