Kruse 1990Primitive articulate brachiopods of orthoid appearance, finely to coarsely costellate; pedicle valve moderately to strongly convex with a prominent beak projecting beyond the hinge line; brachial valve less deep than the pedicle one, medianly sulcate, gently convex, flat or slightly concave. Delythrium open, chilidium missing or (in Chilidorthis) large.
Muscle field confiened to a deep delythrial cavity, not bounded laterally by any plates; dorsal cardinalia orthoid: brachiophores very short, ridge-like, laterally boarding a broadly triangular notothyrial cavity; cardinal process ridge-like, usually with a traingular base, well developed or weak, rarely absent. Mantle canal system in pedicle valve saccate; brachial valve saccate or digitate.
