Taxonomy
Pleurotomaria nitella was named by Hall (1860). It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Bembexia nitella by Ulrich and Scofield (1897) and Rollins et al. (1971); it was recombined as Oehlertia nitella by Perner (1907); it was recombined as Ptychomphalina nitella by Blodgett and Johnson (1992) and Blodgett (1992); it was recombined as Conotoma nitella by Wagner (2023).
