Labrosaurus sulcatus was named by Marsh (1896). Its type specimen is YPM 1936, a tooth, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Antrodemus sulcatus by Hay (1902) and Hay (1930); it was synonymized subjectively with Antrodemus valens by Steel (1970); it was considered a nomen nudum by Canudo et al. (2008); it was synonymized subjectively with Ceratosaurus nasicornis by Soto and Perea (2008).
