Hadrosauropodus was named by Lockley et al. (2003).
It was synonymized subjectively with Caririchnium by Lucas et al. (2011).
It was assigned to Hadrosauridae by Lockley et al. (2003) and Xing et al. (2009); to Iguanodontidae by Lockley et al. (2009); to Iguanodontopodidae by Lockley et al. (2014); to Hadrosauroidea by Salisbury et al. (2016); and to Iguanodontipodidae by Díaz-Martínez et al. (2015), Cónsole-Gonella et al. (2017), Tsukiji et al. (2019) and Castanera et al. (2020).
