Rhyssoplax was named by Thiele (1893) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 899]. It is extant.

It was reranked as Chiton (Rhyssoplax) by Schwabe and Lozouet (2006).

It was assigned to Chitoninae by Wells and Houston (2001); to Neoloricata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Chiton by Schwabe and Lozouet (2006).
