It was reranked as the unranked clade Pterasteridae by Gale (2018).

It was assigned to Eugnathina by Spencer and Wright (1966); to Valvatida by Gale (1987); to Spinulosida by Gale (2011); to Velatida by Gale (2011) and Gale (2018); and to Velatida by Perrier (1894), Blake (1989), Mah and Blake (2012), Gale (2022) and Gale (2023).
