Trichasteropsiidae was named by Blake and Hagdorn (2003). It is not extant. It was considered monophyletic by Blake and Hagdorn (2003) and Gale (2011).

It was corrected as Trichasteropsidae by Gale (2011).

It was assigned to Trichasteropsiida by Blake et al. (2006); to Neoasteroidea by Gale (2011); and to Trichasteropsida by Blake and Hagdorn (2003) and Blake et al. (2017).
