Taxonomy
Spondylus filiaris was named by Dall (1916) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Oligocene; Gulf Coastal Plain.]. Its type specimen is USNM 166712, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Spondylus (Spondylus) filiaris by Dockery (1982).
