Arca subprotracta was named by Heilprin (1881) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Oligocene; Gulf Coastal Plain.]. Its type specimen is ANSP 30649, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Arca (Arca) subprotracta by Dockery (1982); it was misspelled as Lamarcka subcontracta by Vermeij and Amano (2021).
