Taxonomy
Pinnocaris was named by Etheridge (1878) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Trep-u S Ldov-u Sepkoski's reference number: 542]. It is not extant. Its type is Pinnocaris lapworthi.

It was assigned to Ribeiriidae by Pojeta and Runnegar (1976); and to Ribeirioida by Sepkoski (2002).
