Fissuridea derbyi was named by Maury (1924). Its type locality is Rio Pirabas (Maury coll.), which is in a Miocene shallow subtidal limestone/limestone in the Pirabas Formation of Brazil.
It was recombined as Diodora derbyi by Simone and Mezzaalira (1994).
