Bransonia was named by Pojeta and Runnegar (1976) [Sepkoski's age data: O Trem-l P Guad-u Sepkoski's reference number: 542,1066]. It is not extant. Its type is Bransonia wilsoni.
It was assigned to Conocardioida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Bransoniidae by Pojeta and Runnegar (1976) and Bouchet et al. (2010).
