Ophiosmilax alternatus was named by Kutscher and Jagt (2000). It is not extant. Its type locality is Ophiuroids, lower Maastrichtian, Mon, Denmark, which is in a Maastrichtian/Maastrichtian offshore wackestone in Denmark.
