Pentaserpula was named by Parsch (1956) [Pentaserpula was created by Parsch as a subgenus in order to differentiate between fossil serpulids. It is in fact a parataxonomic unit]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Serpulidae by Kiessling (2003).
