Taxonomy
Pecten mclellani was named by Gibson (1987). It is not extant. Its type specimen is USNM 218830. Its type locality is Lee Creek, Pungo River Fm., which is in an Aquitanian/Langhian marine carbonate in the Pungo River Formation of North Carolina.
