Taxonomy

Plerophyllum was named by Hinde (1890).

It was reranked as Pentaphyllum (Plerophyllum) by Wang et al. (2006).

It was assigned to Plerophyllinae by Hill (1956); to Pentaphyllum by Wang et al. (2006); and to Plerophyllidae by Waterhouse and Ranga Rao (1989) and Fedorowski (2021).
