Taxonomy
Protorculidae was named by Bandel (1991) [Spelled "Protoculidae" in the abstract, but "Protocrulidae" in the paper. The type genus is Protorcula, so I am going with the "r" (PJW).].

It was corrected as Protoculidae by Nützel et al. (2003).

It was assigned to Zygopleuroidea by Bandel (1991); to Ptenoglossa by Frýda and Blodgett (2001); to Ptenoglossa by Nützel et al. (2003); and to Caenogastropoda by Bouchet et al. (2005).

K. Bandel 1991Schlanke, turmf6rmige Schnecken mit vielen Umgängen haben eine mit kurzem Ausguß versehene Apertur. Das Larvalgehäiuse ist vom Teleoconch deutlich abgesetzt und zeigt an der Basis der Aufäenlippe einen kurzen Larvalhaken, der vonder folgenden Windung iiberdeckt wird. Die Skulptur der gerundeten Windungen des Larvalgehä uses besteht aus geraden oder schwach nach unten-vorne geneigten, kräiftigen Axialrippen. Die Dimension der Embryonalschale liegt bei etwa 0,1 mm Durchmesser und der Larvalschale bei etwa 1 mm Höhe.
