Pecten madisonius was named by Say (1824) [DISTRIBUTION: Middle Miocene; Atlantic Coastal Plain.]. It is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Pecten (Lyropecten) madisonius by Dall (1898); it was recombined as Pecten (Chlamys) madisonius by Glenn (1904) and Mansfield (1936); it was recombined as Chlamys (Lyropecten) madisonia by Gardner (1943); it was recombined as Chesapecten madisonius by Ward and Blackwelder (1975) and Gibson (1987).
