Ammosphaeroidina was named by Cushman (1910). It is extant. It was considered monophyletic by Cushman (1910).

It was assigned to Ammosphaeroidinidae by Cushman (1910); to Ammosphaeroidininae by Cushman (1927); and to Foraminiferida by Sepkoski (2002).

J. A. Cushman 1910Test globose, arenaceous, early portion spiral, later chambers like Sphaeroidina in form embracing; aperture rounded, at one side of the chamber in the adult. This genus in its general external characters much resembles Spaeroidina, but has a rather coarse arenaceous test.
