Taxonomy
Venericardia granulata was named by Say (1824) [DISTRIBUTION: Miocene-Pliocene; Western Atlantic]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Cardita granulata by Conrad (1838), Conrad (1842), Conrad (1846), Tuomey and Holmes (1858) and Whitfield (1894); it was recombined as Actinobolus granulata by Conrad (1862); it was recombined as Venericardia (Cyclocardia) granulata by Dall (1903) and Kellum (1926); it was recombined as Cyclocardia granulata by Ward and Blackwelder (1987) and Ward (1992).
