Taxonomy
Clisospira was named by Billings (1865) [Sepkoski's age data: O Trem O Ashg Sepkoski's reference number: 797]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Clisospirinae.

It was reranked as Mimospira (Clisospira) by Koken and Perner (1925).

It was assigned to Clisospiridae by Miller (1889); to Mimospira by Koken and Perner (1925); to Hyperstrophina by Sepkoski (2002); and to Clisospirinae by Knight et al. (1960), Linsley and Kier (1984) and Bouchet et al. (2005).
